Acer Aspire 4741G vs Acer Aspire One.

It seems that you have just stumbled upon this post accidentally, aren’t you? This is a post where I would like to write about the Aspire 4741G laptop and Aspire One netbook, what I love about them and which of which should me or you choose. Alright, before I continue with differentiating between these two Acer’s lappy, I would like to tell you that this is also an entry article for Denaihati’s “Hidup Untuk Memberi” contest. I will explain about the contest later.

Choosing between a Notebook or a Netbook dilemma!

This is a hard to make decision for people who wants to buy a portable computers or mobile pc. If I am about to buy a mobile pc, I would ask myself few questions about how am I going to use a portable computer and what is my purpose for buying one? Read on because I am about to reveal to you how you could easily identify which of which is suitable for you.

In terms of buying a portable computer, it means that you want to get connected to the internet almost anywhere anytime on the go right? A netbook is design for computer tasking such as emailing, surfing websites and having chit chatting online. Light usage on personal computing like doing one task at a time. I will suggest you to buy a netbook if these are your needs for a mobile pc. However, if you wants to do multi-tasking like  multi-page web-surfing while editing your MS Word and Powerpoint documents on the same time, I wouldn’t have suggested the netbook. You may get a notebook instead because the processor in a notebook can easily outperform the netbook processor capability. A notebook such as the Acer Aspire 4741G is what I would get for a standard multi-tasking job. You can check out the specifications on my previous post on Aspire 4741G.

If you plan to travel alot, a netbook like the Acer Aspire One is pretty much convenient because of the smaller size and the less weight making it easier to carry and store. You dont even need to have a specific carrying case like a notebook does. If you are a student, you can just flip-and-slide it in with your books and forget about it. You can hardly notice a netbook with a weight of less than 1.5Kg and a screen size of less that 11 inch.

Watching HD movies or DVDs. While most notebook nowadays support High Definition video quality, guess what?. The Aspire One also do support HD video playback. However, I would prefer to watch movies on a bigger screen size like 14″ or more but lately I didn’t get much time to be downloading movies or animes. My current personal computing style is more of on the go type, I don’t spend much time downloading and watching animes anymore. Getting a free Acer Aspire One may sound just to good to be true.

A netbook may not have a DVD drive installed. Do not buy a netbook if you want to install additional software from DVDs or CDs. The manufacturer removed this feature in order to make the netbook more lighter, smaller and less power consumption by removing the power hogging mechanical motor in the drive, hence no DVD drive.

Some netbook may not have any hard drive like many notebook does. This is replace by the Solid State Drive(SSD) which is actually an electronic circuit memory card like the one you use as your pendrive. The SSD technology hugely decreased the netbook power consumption and may increase battery life up to 5 hours of usage. Although the SSD technology as a hard drive is relatively new, the capacity for the Solid State Drive is already reaching 120GB and more. The Acer Aspire One 10.1 inch comes with a 160Gb hard disk drive. For me this is more than enough to store videos and media files.

Do you plan on playing computer games on a netbook? I’m afraid that you have to consider buying an Acer Aspire 4741G notebook. With larger screen size that supports High Definition and a dedicated GeForce 310M graphic card, playing computer games couldn’t get much more fun than this. I don’t play computer games much now, but my brothers does. They plays Hero Online almost everyday. I am planning to use an Aspire One solely for blogging. This is because, I always have a piggy-bag whenever I go out.  Connectivity isn’t a problem since this is KL. I wish for an Aspire 4741G but for me an Acer Aspire One 532 is good enough.

How much is your budget for a mobile PC?

Normally, a netbook is price between the range of RM700 to RM1600. This can be considered cheap and affordable by most Malaysian. A basic entry for a notebook is price at RM1700 to RM2900. Also at this price range you can get an Acer Aspire 4741G for RM2,199 now in almost any computer retail shop across Malaysia. The more expensive notebooks are price over RM3000, mainly targeting Pro user or businessmen. For me, I am not a Pro. I am just your average guy among many other computer technicians in Malaysia that blogs due to his passionate love to computers and technology(also love to my wife and family). My budget for an Acer Aspire One is currently none except for this very entry.
