Well, I don’t usually use a website as my detection tool. I also rarely uses Trend Micros Housecall to scan any file or computer. However, a computer technician need to have various selective detection tools if they encounter a suspicious file.

VirusTotal Upload a File

The computer I am currently using is installed with AVG Antivirus Free Edition. Since AVG have not proven a trustworthy friend for me couple of years ago, I’ve decided to run a test using a Web application as my detection tool. VirusTotal is an important technicians tool that provide Free Online Virus and Malware Scan. You can upload a file to be scan by various antivirus database like Antivir, Kaspersky, Avast, Norman, Avast, BitDefender, ClamAV and many more. I always use this website whenever I found a malicious file which I suspected to be harmful but was detected as clean by an Antivirus. This is called “false-positive” in anti-virus terms.
